Washington State Ferries
The Washington State Ferries, an agency of the Washington
State Department of Transportation, uses Vigilos Enterprise
Security management (ESM) to provide comprehensive security
management across nearly all of its locations and vessels.
The
Washington State Ferries initially chose Vigilos software
in February 2004 to manage its enterprise
security including
video, card access control, and alarms after considering
many suppliers, and following a lengthy evaluation and proposal
process. After successfully installing Vigilos in three locations,
they have chosen to extend the deployments to over 20 additional
locations, including its ferry vessels. The Vigilos software
is used to monitor, control, and configure access control
panels
supplied by Hirsch Electronics, as well as cameras supplied
by a variety of manufacturers including Pelco. Vigilos is
also working with its integrator partner Absco Alarms, Inc.
to complete
the installations.
Making use of the distributed network and
wireless capabilities of the Vigilos software, staff of the
Washington State Ferries
and Washington State Patrol are both able use a secure network
to monitor live video from vessels, even as they are underway
in Puget Sound. Using the Vigilos software component to configure
and operate the Hirsch access control hardware, the ferry
system is able to manage access card rights across its many
vessels
and terminals from its headquarters.
As the vessels move around
in the wireless network Vigilos software manages communications
with the shore-based security
systems automatically, ensuring that accurate information
is available to the Washington State Ferries security organization
in real time. |
