Avanta is Vigilos' security solution, a scalable, architecture software
platform that enables users to control, access and manage their security data like never before. The
software collects, stores and responds to data from intrusion detection systems and video equipment to
provide an intelligent and comprehensive data and emergency management environment.
Vigilos is an application service provider (ASP). This means we enter into an
agreement with end users who can then access and use our software that resides on the Vigilos Vault, the
central data warehouse. The end users avoid investments in expensive servers, applications software and engineers
needed to build and maintain software. It's like receiving electricity from a power supplier while saying good-bye
to your noisy on-site generator.
Because Vigilos is an ASP, some of the familiar concepts about software and hardware are
slightly different. Scroll down to the Upgrades, Backup or Avanta Equipment sections to learn how these processes and concepts work to
your benefit.
Upgrades
Consider some savings that come with Avanta; no software is loaded on user's computers,
nor do users need to use a corporate network or other infrastructure. As part of the agreement, Vigilos upgrades
and maintains Avanta via an Internet connection. No disks; no re-booting! It's an extraordinary convenience that allows a
company's security incident data to be distributed and accessed by all authorized users.
Backup
Important back-up provisions include having your security system information stored both
locally and in the Vigilos Vault, and Avanta can operate on a stand-alone basis, should the need occur.
Avanta Equipment
Two types of equipment are needed to install and run Avanta--security devices (e.g. cameras,
card readers and intrusion panels) and off-the-shelf computers, called appliances. These appliances are central processing
units (CPUs) that have no monitors or keyboards. Communication with the appliances occurs through any Web-browser
equipped laptop or a PC.
Avanta appliances are installed by an installation professional at the end users' site in a safe,
clean location that the dealer and end user select. Device appliances are connected directly to the panel(s)
or camera(s) to receive video and other security data. This data moves to the front-end appliance, which performs the
following functions:
 |
Hosts the device appliances |
 |
Stores the device data on its local database |
 |
Ensures a secure data repository on the user's site |
 |
Communicates with the Vigilos Vault |
