Washington State Ferries Extends Vigilos Deployments
WASHINGTON D.C., 01-August, 2005 --
Vigilos, the leading provider of Enterprise Security Management
(ESM) software for the physical security needs of large
enterprises, today announced that the Washington State
Ferries, an agency of the Washington State Department of
Transportation, has contracted with Vigilos to extend the
deployment of the Vigilos security software to nearly all
of its locations and vessels.
The Washington State Ferries initially chose
Vigilos software in February 2004 to manage its enterprise
security including video, card access control, and alarms
after considering many suppliers, and following a lengthy
evaluation and proposal process. After successfully installing
Vigilos in three locations, they have chosen to extend
the deployments to over 20 additional locations, including
its ferry vessels. The Vigilos software is used to monitor,
control, and configure access control panels supplied by
Hirsch Electronics, as well as cameras supplied by a variety
of manufacturers including Pelco. Vigilos is also working
with its integrator partner Absco Alarms, Inc. to complete
the installations.
Making use of the distributed network
and wireless capabilities of the Vigilos software, staff
of
the Washington State Ferries and Washington State Patrol
are both able use a secure network to monitor live video
from vessels, even as they are underway in Puget Sound.
Using the Vigilos software component to configure and
operate the Hirsch access control hardware, the ferry system
is
able to manage access card rights across its many vessels
and terminals from its headquarters.
"This has proven to be a great opportunity
to install Vigilos software in a mobile environment, on
the ferry vessels," said Geof Barker, CEO of Vigilos. "Based
on the robust architecture of our software, we're able
to support such an environment easily. It is common in
even the best wireless networks to have variable connection
quality. As the vessels move around in the wireless network
our software manages communications with the shore-based
security systems automatically, ensuring that accurate
information is available to the Washington State Ferries
in real time."
Vigilos is currently operating in a variety
of installations including banks, seaports, multi-tenant
commercial buildings, petrochemical, public transportation
and other government and commercial organizations. Customers
such as the Washington State Ferries are able to accomplish
their goal of state of the art security using fewer people,
and with more flexibility than traditional hardware-based
security.
